Indians Update: Laffey Rehabbing, Sign Top Draft PicksThe Cleveland Indians have now signed all three of their top draft picks to contracts. The club inked deals with their first round pick, lefty Drew Pomeranz, and their second (OF Levon Washington) and third (INF Tony Wolters) round picks before the midnight deadline last night. Pomeranz, who went 9-2 for the University of Mississippi this season as a junior, was also named the SEC pitcher of the year and was drafted in 2007 by the Texas Rangers but decided to go to college instead. The Indians took Pomeranz with the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft. In other news, right hander Aaron Laffey made a rehab start for Class-A Lake County last night on his road to recovery from a shoulder injury. Laffey pitched one inning of scoreless ball for the Captains and is expected to make another rehab appearance this weekend. Once he is ready to return to the Tribe, Laffey is likely headed for the bullpen and will become the club’s long reliever. The Indians will start a three game series in Kansas City against the Royals Tuesday night. The teams will fight for fourth place in the AL Central with rookie Jeanmar Gomez taking the hill for the Tribe against Kansas City’s ace Zack Greinke.
