Reds: It’s Not The 00’s Anymore
In the 2nd, catcher Ramon Hernandez lead off with a homer to left of his own, (his 4 th of the year) and in the third the Reds brought in 3 with a Lance Nix(who is hitting a career .500 against Oswalt) double which brought in Orlando Cabrera and Votto. later Hernandez was back at it again as he singled in Nix, though he was caught trying to stretch it into a double. The Reds lead after the 3rd 6 to nothing, and left it to Johnny Cueto to control the game, and did he. Cueto, who came into the night with a 3.39 ERA, and is apart of a starting rotation that has an ERA of 3.18 since June 17th, pitched 8 shut out innings, and accumulated 6 strike outs while only allowing 4 hits and a single walk. His ERA improved to 3.18 and improves his record to 10-2.
Roy Oswalt’s woes this season continued as his record has now fallen to 6-12 and ERA has risen to 3.42. Tonight is the 5 as the lack of run support has really crushed him this season. There is no surprise that he has asked for a trade. The 9th went well for the Reds rookies, as rookie pinch hitter Chris Heiesy hit the third homerun of the game…to left. Then rookie RHP Jordan Smith came on in relief and retired the side easily. The win now brings the Reds record against the Astros to 19-5 since last season. And the Reds will be looking for their sweep of the ball club tomorrow. Tomorrow, arguably the Reds ace comes to the mound, rookie starter Mike Leake takes the mound against Wandy Rodriguez. Start time is 2:05 ET, 1:05 CT.
