Both Fausto Carmona and likely number four or five starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco looked great in their Cactus League debuts Monday and Tuesday. The Tribe defeated the Cincinnati Reds 12-0 on Monday, avenging their narrow defeat from Sunday to the same team, and defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday 2-1. The club is currently 2-1 in Cactus League play. Carrasco pitched two innings on Tuesday, allowing no hits, one walk and no runs and recorded two strikeouts. Carmona, who has been named the Opening Day starting pitcher for the club, needed 29 pitches (22 of which were strikes) to take care of the first eight Reds batters on Monday. He worked a 1,2,3 first and managed to work his way out of a little bit of a jam to get out of the second inning unscathed.

The Indians announced on Tuesday that it is unlikely that center fielder Grady Sizemore will be ready for their Opening Day line-up. Sizemore’s recovery from microfracture surgery on his left knee that he underwent last June has been progressing slower than expected. As of yet, Sizemore has not appeared in any of Cleveland’s three Cactus League game, and no timetable has been set to determine when he will do so. The Indians are playing it safe with their most popular player, and don’t plan to rush him back into action. Sizemore played in just 33 games last year, and has missed significant time the past two seasons to injuries.

Lastly, the Indians officially announced on Tuesday that Austin Kearns had been arrested for a DUI before reporting to Spring Training. According to the Tribe front office, Kearns was charged with driving under the influence on February 12, just a few days before he was due to report to camp. Members of the team were apparently not informed of the arrest until Tuesday morning, when Kearns was called in to meet with General Manager Chris Antonetti and Manager Manny Acta to discuss the situation. Kearns signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Tribe in the offseason, as the club was high on his production last year before they traded him to the Yankees. Their hope was that he would provide some veteran leadership in the clubhouse. It is unknown at this time how much if any the charges will effect Kearns’ ability to be in the Indians’ Opening Day line-up, or if he will be forced to miss any time later in the season due to the charges.
