Greinke, Milwaukee shut out Chicago, 8-0

Brewers’ starter strikes out 12

Chicago Cubs hats & merchandise Zack Greinke escaped a bases loaded, two-out jam in the second and proceeded to put it on cruise control as the Brewers blanked the visiting Cubs, 8-0, on Wednesday night.

Greinke, who struck out a season-high 12 batters, improved to 7-2 after allowing just two hits over seven innings.

After managing just one hit off Cubs’ starter Paul Maholm over the first three innings, the Brewers (25-31) busted loose in the fourth by plating four runs on five hits—three of which were doubles.

Ryan Braun got Milwaukee on the board with a one out double to score Norichika Aoki, who led off the inning with a double. After Corey Hart reached via an infield single with one down, Cody Ransom delivered a run-scoring double and Brooks Conrad drove in two runs with a single.

Corey Hart’s sac fly off Cubs’ reliever Randy Wells made it 5-0 in the fifth.

Milwaukee blew the game wide open in the eighth when Taylor Green connected for a three-run shot off Chicago’s Carlos Marmol.

Norichika Aoki went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the Brewers, who held an 11-3 advantage in total hits.
