Cubs Claimed P Miguel Socolovich off Waivers


Chicago Cubs hats & merchandise The Chicago Cubs made another pitching move on Thursday by claiming the right-hander off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. He was then optioned to Triple-A Iowa (PCL).

Signed by the Boston Red Sox as amateur free agent in 2004, the 25-year-old Venezuelan made his Major League debut this season. On July 14, he pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief appearance against the Detroit Tigers at Camden Yards.

Socolovich (0-0, 6.97) had a total of 10 1/3 innings pitched with the Orioles and spent the rest of this season with Triple-A Norfolk (IL) where he was 4-0 with a 1.90 ERA in 28 games.

Socolovich is the second pitcher the Cubs signed within five days. Alex Hinshaw was claimed off waivers on Sunday.
