Matt Garza unavailable until late this week
Matt Garza’s scheduled start on Monday will be pushed back. The Cubs’ right-hander, who had last Saturday’s start against the St. Louis Cardinals, exited from the game after pitching three scoreless innings. It was reported that Garza had cramp on his triceps and the ace has not been starting a game since.
Sources said that his MRI examination which seemed to be OK but he will not be penciled in the Cubs’ line-up until late this week.
Garza, along with Ryan Dempster, has been mentioned in potential trades before non-waiver trade deadline on Tuesday as the Cubs are acted as sellers. But no official deal has yet been made.
He did not accompany the team in Pittsburgh since last Monday while awaiting for his wife giving birth of their second child.
The right-hand veteran has a current season record of 5-7 with an ERA of 3.91 striking out 96 and walking 32 in 103 2/3 innings pitched.
Because of the delay, starter Dempster could probably have one more start for Chicago Monday, considered if the righty would be traded before the trading deadline.
