Injury Bug Hits Tribe with Hafner and Kipnis Out

Cleveland Indians hats & merchandise

Just when things looked like they were turning around for the Cleveland Indians, the team got hit with the injury bug again. Travis Hafner was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a bulged disk in his back. Hafner last played on Sunday, hitting his 200 th career home run in his last at bat in the ball game. It might be a fitting end to his tenure with the Indians should this back injury keep him out of action for the rest of the season. Also out of the line-up this weekend has been Jason Kipnis, who is dealing with tightness in his neck. The Indians had called up Jason Donald to take Travis Hafner’s spot on the roster, and he is now playing second base to fill the void until Kipnis is able to return. The Indians are hopeful that Kipnis will be available for them when they head to Los Angeles where they will begin a nine-game west coast road-trip to face the Angels, A’s and Mariners.
