Padres’ Carlos Quentin to Have Knee Surgery Monday
The San Diego Padres will be without the services of their cleanup hitter for the rest of the spring and the start of the regular season as well. Carlos Quentin had an MRI done on his right knee after complaining of soreness earlier this spring, and the results suggested that arthroscopic surgery was his best option to correct the problem. Quentin arrived this spring ready to go, but experienced inflammation in the knee after just a couple of days of workouts. Following treatment, the swelling went down and he was able to play in the Padres’ Cactus League games until Wednesday, when he re-injured the knee in their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Padres are counting on Quentin to provide a jolt to their rather docile offense and from what they have seen this spring he will do just that. Over his first six games since coming to the team from the White Sox this offseason, Quentin was hitting .533 with two doubles, one homer and four RBIs. The recovery time for this kind of surgery is roughly four weeks, so he should be back in the Padres’ line-up about 10 days into the regular season provided that there are no setbacks.
