Darin Ruf Makes Starting Debut

Many people who live in the South-Eastern Pennsylvania area have heard about Darin Ruf and his power-hitting prowess in Double-A Reading. Even with his great season that included 38 home-runs, experts didn't consider him a legitimate prospect due to his age (26).

His abundance of power earned him a call-up to Philadelphia once Reading was done in the post-season.

Up until his first start, he hadn't had much action. Ruf had 3 pinch-hitting experiences under his belt, all resulting in outs. The 6'3" first baseman/left fielder made his starting debut Tuesday against the Nationals, playing left field.

"Babe Ruf" had a night to remember, simultaneously getting both his first hit and home run on a 3-2 count. The rest of his night wasn't too shabby, either. While he did strikeout, he added a single that almost started a run-scoring fiesta. His night ended when Nate Schierholtz ended his night, coming in as a defensive replacement.

If his starting debut is a sign of things to come, the Phuture of the Phillies is bright.
