What now!?

The GM of the White Sox is Kenny Williams. He’s arrogant, stubborn, intelligent and hungry for success. Since becoming the GM, he has help orchestrate 3 division titles and a World Series Championship. The aggressive Kenny Williams tried to pull off another magic trick just a few days ago, as he tried to acquire the 2007 NL Cy Young award winner in Jake Peavy. Peavy decided to stay in San Diego and exercise his no trade clause and avoid pitching in the American League.

There is real no point in dwelling on the fact we didn’t add a front end starter, but ask ourselves… What will Kenny Williams do now? Well, let’s analyze a few things that we have learned over these last few days. 1. Kenny Williams clearly doesn’t like what he sees these days from his Sox and his willing to make a trade for a starter. 2. Not just any starter, a front end starter who is under contract and owed a lot of money (4 years 60 million remaining). 3. This bodes well for Sox fans. Kenny is staying aggressive, as he wants this team to compete and won’t be satisfied with the lack of execution that’s been taken place thus far. 4. The reason he is willing to acquire a big time player, with a big time contract? After this season the Sox will have around 40 million coming off the payroll (Jim Thome, Jermaine Dye, Octavio Dotel, and Jose Contreras). This gives Kenny the flexibility to be aggressive via trades or free agency this off-season.

One thing about Kenny Williams, he is without a doubt predictably unpredictable. I am not sure how many people (other teams, fans) knew he was interested in a making a trade for a player of Jake Peavy’s caliber, but as Sox fans we are never surprised to hear Kenny is out there looking to improve his team. So, who else is out there? If he is serious about acquiring an ace type pitcher on a losing team… How about Dan Haren of the Diamondbacks? Or Wandy Rodriguez of the Houston Astros? We aren’t sure what Kenny is going to do, or when he is going to do it. All we know is he won’t stand for mediocre season, and he knows Sox fans won’t either. Perhaps a trade is what this team needs to spark a little intensity on the faces of these players. Someone who will rejuvenate the starting rotation; someone who energizes this offense; and to get these White Sox fans believing again that winning on the South Side is an everyday, every year sort of thing.

So who is that season changing player? We don’t know yet, but with Kenny Williams running the show, it’s not a matter of if, but when. Stay tuned.
