Dodgers Salvage Final Game in Arizona Series

After two disappointing losses to Arizona, the Dodgers took it to the D-Backs avoiding a sweep at Chase Field. The win did not only salvage the series, but got Los Angeles back to five hundred on their six game road trip. With the horrifying loss of Hiroki Kuroda and walk off defeat Saturday, Los Angeles looked to be back in a groove Sunday in game three.

LA Dodgers hats Randy Wolf pitched a gem in the finale. Coming off a one of his best starts of the season, Wolf showed no signs of slowing down. He went 7 2-3 innings, struck out 10, and did not walk a single batter in route to his seventh win of the year. Not only was Wolf lights out on the mound, but he decided to put on a hitting clinic too. He had three hits, drove in three, and homered off of starter Yusmeiro Petit. Randy Wolf will definitely not forget Sunday afternoon anytime soon.

Los Angeles, however, have a six and nine record half way through the month. The Rockies are in the Dodgers’ rearview mirror, and they are getting a little too close for comfort. Only sitting five games back in the division going into Monday, Colorado continues to play at a high level winning two out of their last three series. Things may get a lot closer than most anticipated in the west in the last few weeks of the season.

Losing a series to Arizona is a no-no at this point of the season. With their next three series coming against St. Louis, Chicago, and Colorado, things are not getting any easier for Joe Torre’s club. The Dodgers are going to have to elevate their level of play in next two weeks if they want to keep the Rockies from creeping even closer to the division lead.
