Dodgers Slip Even Closer to Colorado

Wednesday marked yet another bump in the road to the playoffs for Los Angeles. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, Dodger reliever, Ramon Troncoso, melted down, giving up a walk off walk to end the game with a fizzle. In contrast, the Rockies’ Seth Smith had a walk off 2 run single to beat Cincinnati and run Colorado’s winning streak to six straight games. Going into play Thursday, Colorado has cut the once double digit lead of the Dodgers to only 2 ½ games.

LA Dodgers hats Playing .500 ball over their last three series against the likes of Arizona and San Diego isn’t gong to get it done, especially because Colorado is beginning to resemble the 2007 club more and more every day. With two series against Pittsburgh, Washington, and San Diego to finish out the month, it is crucial that the Dodgers start adding to their division lead.

Joe Torre has been through these battles before. He spent a lot of years in New York with the Red Sox breathing down his neck and always seemed to manage to pull the club together in the end. This, however, is a different animal. Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, and especially Derek Jeter aren’t walking through that door. These next few weeks are going to be a big test of what Joe Torre and the Dodgers are made of.
