Jim Thome signs with Minnesota
It's official; Peoria native and former South Side slugger Jim Thome will have a Job this season. According to CSNChicago.com's Patrick Mooney (link Mooney's name? http://www.csnchicago.com/01/26/10/Thome-Signs-One-Year-Deal-with-Twins/landing_09.html?blockID=169226&feedID=661) the Minnesota Twins and Thome agreed Tuesday to a one-year, $1.5 million dollar deal containing incentives.
Mooney says Thome is expected to strengthen the Minnesota bench even though he's hit only .213 with two home runs in 98 career pinch-in at-bats. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told Mooney, "I don't expect him to come off the bench and be a .400 hitter. I expect him to come off the bench and be a threat. He looks like a stinkin' Babe Ruth. He swings like Babe Ruth. We've seen too many fly against us. Now let's see some fly for us." The Twins and Sox face off at U.S. Cellular Field during the first week of the season (April 9-11).
